What is the value of this class to you?

Teaching, and learning, always depends on taking stock, on evaluation.
So #clarkclass, what is the main value of  what you've learned in this class to you, personally and professionally? No BS, just from your gut?
Comment below, as much as you want, as specific as possible, by 9 a.m. Thursday.

  1. My main take away is to just relax and go with the flow (for the class and life in general). This class has given me a new perspective on my approach to so many things - professionally and personally. This has been one of the most influential experiences of my time at UCO, and the introduction to the comms professionals are invaluable.

  2. I think it is really vital to experience an intercession at least once in your college career. There's nothing like it, because they are always more relaxed; more of a conversation, if you will. #ClarkClass has changed my outlook on how to use Twitter for my personal brand. Between being thrown in the deep end, and being authentic, I think I can find a nice balance of #micropraise, #microbitching, and article sharing.

  3. The main idea that has resonated with me with all of the guest speakers is to just be myself. It's really refreshing to hear professionals say that it's ok to insert your humor or personality into your social media, instead of just sharing a headline like a news wire.

  4. Meeting and listening to successful people from all walks of life was an amazing experience! I only heard about these types of people from movies, so actually meeting such entrepreneurs in their fields and hopefully learning from them and their advices were the main values that I will take away from this class.

  5. One of the main things that I have learned is how it is okay to be yourself and funny on your social media platforms but also maintain a sense of maturity. As long as you are mature with your posts and take into consideration how you portray yourself, you can maintain professionalism. This intercession has opened my eyes to how much social media continues to change and how they all can combine to increase brand growth, both personally and for companies.

  6. When we started this class, I remember how embarrassed I was when we all took a moment to assess each others' Twitter profiles. I went from having 22 followers that day to having 133 today. I could not have done that without the knowledge that I have gained from this class. As a writer, I liked how Joe Wertz put it, that social media accounts are just modern bylines. I learned from Dave Rhea how to truly be authentic and maintain credibility. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone looking to learn about how to use social media the best way possible.

  7. I think that this class has changed my outlook on social media and for the better. I am now more aware of what I am putting out onto the Internet. Listening to all the different speakers and their insight has been invaluable and I know the things learned in this class will stay with me throughout my professional career and personal life. I love all the freedom we have when it comes to discussions. Our class is so diverse that it made for some very interesting conversations. The main thing I am taking away from this class is to be authentic. All of our speakers have said it is so important and because of this class I now have a better understanding of what it means to be authentic.

  8. I took away that most importantly you should listen to what others are saying over what you're trying to say. Social Media is there for us to connect with one another and how are we suppose to connect if we don't listen to what people are telling us.

  9. What has been most valuable to me in this class has been being able to learn, listen, and discuss so many different perspectives. Whether we have discussed someones view of Twitter, or their take on being Authentic, or where someone's path has led them, or where they want to go, I have learned so much in a short amount of time. I have loved getting to hear from current outside business professionals inside the classroom, and also have enjoyed being able to discuss the opinions from other classmates. The relaxed open environment that this intersession course brings is refreshing to say the least. When you can take a course, teach valuable life lessons, and transform people lives for the better in the process, I believe you have exceeded expectations. This class should be an example for the University to model what transformative learning is all about. Great job! Great course. Loved the class Dr. Clark.

  10. Over the course of the last two weeks this class has left me with three lessons. First is be ready to adapt and change. Not just with technology and means of communication but with life. Second is never think that you've learned everything you need to know, not if you want to be successful. All the speakers we've met have been lifelong learners constantly learning and furthering their horizons and perspectives. Third is that Twitter is not a tool for the spectator. While it can be used that way Twitter at it's most useful is based on conversation and a back and forth. Platforms like Facebook are a parking lot. You make a post and it sits there for whenever others want to find it. Conversely Twitter is a freeway with everyone buzzing by in either direction. You have to participate.

  12. I am so very happy I decided to take this class. It has opened my mind to so many new ideas and ways to use twitter and just all social media in general. I have enjoyed every speaker we have had, they just leave you in "aww." I have heard so many life stories over the short time we have all spent together. This class has made me realize that to every success there are a couple fails you will encounter. It is important to keep your head up throughout the journey of life. The way this generation is using social media, which is basically 24/7, it is important to have a class like this to ensure you are using it to the best of its abilities. Advice that we have heard from multiple people throughout this class is to be yourself and find a way to stand out, but also be mindful of who your audience is. "Don't say anything you wouldn't say to your mother." This is my first time to have a class with Dr. Clark, and I hope it won't be my last. I would highly recommend him and his class! #clarkclass

  13. This has been my favorite class I have ever taken in college. I have learn so many valuable lessons from the amazing speakers and my classmates. I really like how they all have taken different paths but somehow still repeat some of the things the other said. I know that being authentic, watching what I say, educate myself more, and to value social media is in all areas not only in Pro-Media. That is good to know. I also learned that it is ok, not to go into exactly what you have major in. I'm really, really happy that I have taken this class. It is very much worth it.

  14. The value of this class to me is the connection between people. I have connected with so many successful and smart people from this class that it is unreal. Beyond that I have learned how to connect with other people I haven't met (yet). So I would say the connections are the value of this class to me. Aside from all the amazing tips and lessons I've learned.

  15. The value of this class to me has been what each speaker has said. When I signed up for this class I thought it was just going to be about how to tweet; but it has been so much more. I have really enjoyed listening to all the speakers and getting to see twitter from another perspective.

  18. the main take i got from this class is that social media will always be evolving and by having such great speakers give their opinion and share their experiences broadens my knowledge of how twitter has changed the media world. the value i believe is we should broaden our connections. Overall, i think this class is amazing on showing us how twitter has integrated itself into the business world.

  19. I've taken away so much from this intercession class. One that means a lot to my future career field that all of our speakers have touched on, is engagement. Engaging not only creates a network of people, but it allows you to have genuine conversations through social media. As a business entity it's important to let viewers/followers/consumers know that you do care and you are willing to reach out to them as a human being.

  20. I have learned so much about the use of Twitter and how effective it actually can be. I didn't realize how big of a networking tool it really can be.

  21. This class has opened my eyes to the reality of a career in PR ans communication, which is built largely on people skills and relationships. The only way to have relationships is to be yourself and engage with those in your fiele / interests genuinely and not to get anything out of it. People can tell if you care or not and I believe that is a huge prerequisite for any Mass Comm oriented career.

  23. I just realized how much companies actually do look at your social media profiles. I have always heard that companies look at them but I thought they just said that to scare people.
